Fall Frenzy

I know, I know, I've been slacking lately and I have not had a blog post since August. Maybe one of my New Year's Resolutions should be to keep my blog updated...we'll see how that goes. But I will try and make more of an effort.

Where to start? Well, I'll start by saying that I can't believe this year is nearly gone! Seriously, what happened to 2009? It was certainly an eventful year for us. This fall has come and gone like a whirl wind! Football is pretty much the first word that comes to mind when I think of the fall time. Leon and I had several football parties for some of the big Auburn and Alabama games, and of course we had some of our friends over for the Iron Bowl! We love having our friends around and what better way than football to spend time with your closest friends?!

Of course, we do focus on more than football occasionally. We went to the Zac Brown Band Concert at the Amphitheater here in Montgomery. Despite the pouring rain and mud it was a lot of fun! I volunteered in September to work at the LPGA Tournament in Prattville for three days. This was a fun experience and I was able to meet many of the golfers and drive them around on the golf cart. My little sister, Catherine, was cheering for Goodwyn and I was able to make it out to a few games to see her cheer for my old junior high Alma Mater. It was neat to watch the girls cheering and see that not much has changed in the ten years since I was in her shoes. They still did a lot of the same cheers I did when I was in
school and cheering there. I also took a tour of an M&Ms packaging plant in Auburn as part of a course I took for work. It was pretty interesting to see how quickly the machines package, label and seal those little M&M tubes.

October was a great month! Halloween! Leon went with some friends to visit another friend in South Carolina for Halloween. He dressed up as Niki Sixx for Halloween and it was a pretty convincing costume. I went out with some of my girlfriends for Halloween since Leon was out of town. I dressed up as Alice in Wonderland. My sister actually helped me pick out the costume and it turned out to be cute.

For Halloween our church, Taylor Road Baptist Church, hosts 'Taylor Road Treats the Town'. There were over 1,000 people who turned out for this great family friendly event and our Sunday School Class did a trunk or treat with a Farm Theme. A few of us brought our dogs and dressed them up as farm animals. Penny was dressed as a cow. It was so funny!

For work I have also attended some fun events in the past few months. The beginning of November was Frontier Days at Ft. Toulouse. This is a great event for kids of all ages. Ft. Toulouse was 'garison' which means people come and live at the fort and around it just like people would have in the 1800s. These garison actors show the children how life was like for them during the 1800s. I also went to the Battles for the Tallassee Armory. This is a Civil War re-enactment showing how the South fought off the soldiers from the North who were trying to find the Armory in Tallassee. Leon's Dad is a re-enactor and I was able to get a first hand look at some of their canon demonstrations by firing the canon myself.

Also in November, Leon was in a jui-jitsu tournament in Trussville. He won first place in his weight division and I was so proud of him and he was extremly excited for himself as well. The rest of the guys from his jui-jitsu school also won first place in their weight divisions. In case you're wondering, jui-jitsu is a type of martial art. Not MMA or anything quite that extreme. Leon really enjoys it and he will be attending the NAGA regional tournament in February in Atlanta.
